Eight justices agreed.
The state cannot prevent a therapist
from attempting to convert
a teenager's sexuality
because that conversion
is speech.
Not treatment.
Not intervention.
Speech.
Twenty-three states had drawn boundaries
around the practice.
Twenty-three states said: we have seen the damage.
The suicidal ideation.
The depression that outlasts the sessions.
The organism turning against its own biochemistry.
And an 8-1 vote decided
that turning a child against themselves
is constitutionally protected articulation.
This is not about therapy.
The Ego does not require a clinic.
It requires confirmation
that what it constructed
is the only acceptable configuration.
When a child says
I am attracted to this
and not that
The Ego of the parent
or the state
or the institution
hears a threat.
Not to the child.
To the version of the child
that Identity already designed.
The cure was never for the teenager.
The cure was for the discomfort
of the adults
whose Identity cannot metabolize
what the organism already settled.
The hypothalamus does not consult the court.
The amygdala does not read the decision.
The 8-1 vote was not about speech.
It was The Ego
voting to preserve itself.
